Not the Curls!

I got an email this morning from my translator in Vladivostok, Kate. Kate the Great. I am really hoping she's my translator this time around too, or that I at least get to see her. In her email she said she had seen Little T at the orphanage. She said T smiled at her and she gave her a hug. The bad news is that THEY CUT OFF HER CURLS!

Most of you haven't yet seen my beautiful T -- and soon you will :) I am confident! I must paint a picture for you of a beautiful little girl with curly dark brown curls. The best curls! The kind you're envious of when you see them, because they don't need "encouragement" from fancy (read: expensive) aids bought at the salon!

The "referral" picture I saw of her has "shorter" curl-less hair as well. If you remember, I saw the picture AFTER I saw T - as she was referred to me in country after I sadly declined referral #1. Lorien at my agency and I joked that her hair was MUCH better after it was grown out!!

I know the reasons for the hair cuts... it's a lot less maintenance for the care givers to not have to brush out longer, snarly girls hair. And it's ummm less apt to collect critters - I'll stop there :) But not the curls! I am hoping she's had her last hair cut for a while!!

Cross your fingers for my mom's laptop. We're in testing mode for the trip and it's been VERY temperamental. Only wants to work for me at her house -- and not always then. It's making a trek to Grand Rapids tomorrow for it's final test. It's my lifeline to home from Russia!!

They cut off some of Alina's hair because of a nervous habit she had of pulling it out. Broke my heart. It's allll back now... Long curly locks.

Good Luck Amy! We are so happy for you two!

They should come back quickly with all the good nutrition she'll be getting very soon. Our daughter's hair was cut very short in the back. It's been fun discovering all her new curls since we've been home.

Have a great trip!

Curls or no curls - you are going to melt when you see her little face. I'm gonna email you about your laptop :o)

No doubt she'll be just as beautiful. And, I completely understand why it has to be done, too. Bummer.

I can understand your sadness about the curls. I agree with Kim I think that they will grow back really fast.
13 more days!

Oh No......didn't they know you were coming?? She'll get her curls back and lots of attention while you brush her hair all the time. At least you know in advance and won't be totally shocked when you see her in a week.
And OMG, you HAVE to have a computer in Russia.......whatever will I do without commuication with you! Totally selfish, I know, but I have to live through you right now.
Praying for the laptop!
Hugs!!

Oh no! I know they have to do it, but think of it this way - you get to watch it grow back out now!

Did you get the laptop working?

Awwww not the curls! They will grow back very fast when you get her home, since you will be feeding her much better! :) Noah had no hair either, they shaved all the kids in the summer but it came back within a month.

Hoping the lap top works out!

Where Hannah was they didn't just cut their hair short, but shave them bald. You couldn't tell boys from girls :(

There was no idea of treating lice in any other way: they had neither the time nor money to buy hair treatments, or risk laundry and beds getting infected. I always felt so sorry for the teenage girls especially - yet another 'mark' of differentness.

At least you have the comfort of knowing this will never need to be done to T. again. And you'll be able to have some lovely bonding time brushing it as it grows back in :)

Ohhhh Nooooo! I am so sorry. This happened to us too. The first day we met Meg her hair was long and wavy, pulled into a little pony on the top of her head. The next day they had cut her hair into the worst mullet I've ever seen. They left the back "long so I could see the curls." Uh, thanks, I guess. Anyway, it will grow, but it's a bummer because you have visions of what your little girl will look like getting off that plane. But you'll be surprised how much good a bath can do! :)
